Elbow X-Ray
When is an Elbow X-Ray Recommended?
An elbow X-ray may be necessary in cases of fractures, dislocations, deformity-causing injuries, or joint inflammation affecting the elbow bones.
The Procedure for an Elbow X-Ray
During the elbow X-ray, the patient sits sideways at the end of the table, with the entire upper limb in alignment with the plane of the film. The elbow is fully extended, and the palm faces upwards. The forearm’s axis is aligned with the cassette’s axis, and the patient leans to the side.
- Lateral View: The patient sits sideways at the end of the table, with the entire upper limb in alignment with the film plane. The elbow is bent at a 90-degree angle. The arm’s axis is parallel to the cassette, with the hand positioned laterally, thumb pointing upward.
It is important that the patient remains still during the examination and follows the breathing instructions. The examination is completely painless, with the only potential discomfort being the coldness of the X-ray board. The procedure requires no prior preparation.
Examination Duration
The examination takes approximately 5 minutes. A written report is provided based on the examination, which the patient receives electronically or, if requested, in printed form within 2-4 business days.
