CT scan

At Újbuda Medical Center, we place particular emphasis on ensuring that the specialist evaluation of MR and CT scans, i.e., the reporting, is always performed by a radiologist specialized in the examined body part. Our model thus differs from many other private clinics, where a radiologist may report on various body parts.

Our examination model ensures that our patients receive the most accurate picture of their condition, contributing to the correct diagnosis and allowing for surgical interventions and treatments to be performed with greater precision. Moreover, our specialized expertise significantly reduces surgical and treatment risks, as well as potential complications.

A distinctive feature of our institution is that our professional staff includes 24 highly trained radiologist specialists who focus on areas such as cranial, abdominal and pelvic, musculoskeletal, and spine specializations. This extensive expertise ensures that the diagnosis of each body part is conducted with the highest level of proficiency. Újbuda Medical Center thus guarantees that every patient receives a personalized, precise diagnosis, meeting individual needs.

We have a brand new, Japanese-made Hitachi Supria CT machine in our center, which utilizes the most modern computer tomography (CT) technology to provide accurate and reliable diagnostic services.

What is a CT Scan

A CT scan is an exceptionally advanced radiological procedure that creates detailed images of the body's internal structure, enabling the early detection and treatment of numerous diseases and conditions. Our goal is to provide our patients with a safe, comfortable, and informative examination experience, while using the latest technology and expertise to accurately determine their health status. With our Hitachi Supria machine, we perform thorough and precise imaging of various body regions—whether it's the skull, spine, abdomen, or other areas—ensuring the highest level of diagnostic precision.

CT Scan Procedure

The process of a CT scan at our center is a comprehensive and carefully planned procedure that prioritizes the comfort and safety of the patient. Upon arrival for the examination, the patient first receives detailed information about the procedure, including the need for intravenous contrast administration and special preparations for contrast-enhanced CT scans. We always highlight important preparations before the examination, such as fasting for abdominal and pelvic exams and considering allergies and iodine sensitivity.

During the examination, the patient must remain still, as even the slightest movement can affect the image quality. Our CT machine performs a rotating motion around the patient while emitting X-rays, which enable the detailed depiction of various anatomical regions, such as the skull, spine, or abdomen, during the examination. The intravenously administered contrast during the contrast-enhanced exam helps to better visualize tissues and vascular systems.

After the CT scan, especially if contrast is used, we recommend increased fluid intake to help the body eliminate the contrast material. Generally, there are no special precautions or restrictions after the exam, allowing patients to quickly return to their daily activities. The results of the CT scan and the radiologist's medical evaluation become available in the following days, providing patients with accurate and detailed information about their health status.

Native CT Scan

The native CT scan is a procedure that examines the body's anatomical regions, such as the skull, cervical spine, lumbar spine, abdomen, and pelvis, in high-resolution images without the use of contrast material. This type of examination allows for the precise identification of pathological changes, such as tumors or inflammatory processes.

Preparations Necessary for Native CT Scan:

We pay special attention to pre- and post-examination procedures. For abdominal and pelvic native CT scans, it is crucial that the patient does not eat for 4-6 hours before the exam, as this can affect the outcome. No special preparations are needed for other regions.

For every examination, it is important that the patient always brings the necessary referral, outpatient card, or specialist recommendation, as these documents are essential for conducting the examination. During native CT scans, the patient must remain still to ensure clear and sharp images.

Contrast-Enhanced CT Scan

During a contrast-enhanced CT scan, contrast material administered intravenously and/or orally is used to provide a more detailed display of the body's internal structures. This method is particularly useful in cases where better differentiation of soft tissues and vascular structures is needed, as well as in the differentiation of lesions. During the contrast-enhanced scan, details that may remain hidden during a native CT scan become visible.

Preparations Necessary for Contrast-Enhanced CT Scan:

Before the examination, we always inform patients about the process of administering contrast material and potential side effects. Good kidney function is required for the administration of contrast, so patients are advised to bring a kidney function test result that is no older than 14 days. During the examination, patients may experience warmth or a metallic taste, but these are temporary phenomena that quickly pass.

Patients should not eat for 4-6 hours before the exam to avoid nausea caused by the contrast material. After a contrast-enhanced CT scan, increased fluid intake is important to help the body expel the contrast material more quickly. After the examination, patients can immediately return to their daily activities; generally, no special care is needed.

CT Scan Without a Referral

It is important to note that, according to Hungarian regulations, CT scans can only be performed with a specialist's recommendation. Our clinic is committed to ensuring that patients are informed about these requirements and supports them in smoothly accessing the necessary referrals.

A specialist's referral is not only a legal requirement but also crucial for protecting the patient's health and ensuring the best possible medical care.

Although CT scans cannot be conducted without a referral, we assist patients in all necessary steps to obtain the required medical documents as quickly as possible. Contact us with confidence, and we will help you navigate the acquisition of the necessary health regulations and specialist recommendations, so that your CT scan can be conducted promptly.

Private CT Scan

A private CT scan offers patients a unique opportunity to access necessary diagnostic imaging procedures quickly and efficiently. At our center, private CT scans are conducted alongside the highest professional standards, using modern equipment and involving experienced radiologists. This service is an ideal choice for those who prefer to avoid the waiting times experienced in traditional health care systems and who favor the benefits of private health care.

During a private CT scan, we pay special attention to the individual needs and comfort of the patient. We organize the examination flexibly, adjusting to the patient's schedule, ensuring that the diagnostic process is smooth and stress-free. Every examination is performed using the most modern technology, which allows for the creation of accurate and detailed images, whether it's of the skull, spine, abdomen, or pelvis.

During a private CT scan, patients receive a quick and accurate diagnosis, which is essential for developing further treatment plans. The modern imaging technology and expert radiologists ensure that the examination is thorough and impeccable. Additionally, private CT scans offer patients the opportunity to receive more detailed explanations and consultations about the results, helping them better understand their health status and the next steps.

CT Scan During Pregnancy

During pregnancy, examinations involving X-rays, such as CT scans, should generally be avoided to protect both the mother and the fetus. Exceptions are made only for urgent and life-threatening conditions where the examination is indispensable.

CT Scan Appointment Booking

We offer every patient the opportunity to book up to three different anatomical regions for a CT scan in a single appointment. There is no possibility for additional examinations within the same appointment. It is important to note that if a patient initiates a cancellation on-site for multi-regional bookings, the fees for the missed examinations must still be paid.

CT Scan Price

The price of a CT scan includes the examination itself and the written radiological specialist evaluation, which we provide to the patient by no later than 20:00 on the third working day following the examination, optionally by email, personal pickup, or by post, the latter subject to a separate fee.

It is important to note that the price of a CT scan does not include radiological specialist consultation and enlightenment. The evaluation and explanation of the CT results can only occur in conjunction with the targeted specialist examination and are not the responsibility of the patient. Staff are not authorized to provide enlightenment regarding the results of the CT scan; this is solely the responsibility of the treating physician.
